6th n Main6th n Main – Beach & Motown
Sounding their mantra of "let your feet meet the beat" 6th n Main is an authentic-sounding  R&B/Motown and Beach music band that combines experience with youth.  Male lead vocalist Lionel Best Jr. makes Motown real and can dance “just as good as he wants!”  Female lead vocalist Alison Streeter is no stranger to the stage.  Whether starring in the HCLT production of "SUDS” or as a vocal soloist in The Prizery, Streeter commands R-E-S-P-E-C-T.  Ray Crawley, guitar and vocals, has been n the middle of the music scene since the 70's, From pianist/singer, jazz band member of "Nu Soul" to vocalist in the "Ebony Diamonds, Crawley brings experience galore!  Then, there is Carl Meadows, bassist, solid as a cornerstone and the foundation of 6th n Main's groove.  Having performed with Uncle Buck, he has opened for J. Geils Band, Johnny Winter, and Elephant’s Memory when John Lennon was with the group.  As he states, "if I can hear it, I can play it."  Chris Walton, drummer, is one of the more talented musicians in the area.  Having played drums and keyboards for "Nu Soul" and currently a music/choir director for a local church, his rhythms and tempos are critical to the success of 6th n Main.  Victoria Thomasson, percussionist, completes “the beat” in the 6th n Main's sound with her take on the congos, bongos, wood blocks, chimes and shakers,  Rounding out the sound is Bob Thomasson on keyboards. Having played with "The Palace Dukes", "Solomon Grundy", "Big Bertha and the Highrisers", and "Mixed Rezults, “ and having served as musical director for four of Victoria Thomasson’s HCLT productions, he has a broad range of musical genres to draw on.  Proclaimed the MVP member, Chris Hatcher, sound engineer, has worked with 6th n Main  for the past year and is responsible for taking that sweet sound of R&B/Motown and Beach to the audience.

The Panel Alarm – Folk
The Panel AlarmThe Panel Alarm was formed in December 2008 as an Accoustic duo by founders Reuben Rhodes (Lead guitar, vocals) and Tim Slabach (Lead vocals, guitar). The two met at Virginia Tech while pursuing engineering degrees and began playing and writing music together. Their venues consisted mostly of accoustic cafe's and "coffee house" performances. The addition of Chris Moore (Drums) and Jason Slabach (Keyboard, vocals) during the summer of 2009 helped to solidify their sound and also provide the capability of the diverse styles and song writing the band is now know for. Though always recognized for their tight vocal harmonies, adding a third vocalist helped to give the band even more vocal options. Music influences range from Relient K and Cold Play to artists such as The Allman Brothers and The Eagles. The Panel Alarm's unique song writing style, that consists of up-beat catchy tunes to clever guitar driven ballads, has made them what they are known for today.

Glenn Brown, singer/songwriterGlenn Brown and the David Ellis Martin Band - Indie Rock and Folk

Two of the area's most talented singer/songwriters are joining forces for a HaliFair exclusive.

A singer/songwriter and acoustic guitarist with a sound reminiscent of the influential folk singers of the 60's, Glenn's sound belies his youth.  With deep influences from legendary artists like Bob Dylan and Neil Young to emerging genre-changing artists such as the Avett Brothers and Ryan Adams, new fans often remark that his sound had them expecting him to be much older.

Glenn's journey in music began at the age of 4 with violin lessons and at age 11 he began learning to play guitar on instruments that he inherited from his grandfather, a professional musician; Glenn had been writing poetry since elementary school, so transitioning to songwriting was a natural progression for him.  His songwriting is a unique blend of folk, blues, and rock, with additional influences from traditional Appalachian music.

Having performed regionally at the Prizery in South Boston, VA and at numerous private engagements across Virginia and North Carolina, in 2009 he was also invited to be the headliner at a national fundraising event in Des Moines, Iowa, resulting in a new fan following in the Midwest.

David Ellis MartinSinger/songwriter David Ellis Martin reflects his diverse musical influences and experiences in original songs that combine anthem-like melodies and progressive chord structures. His music ranges from folk to rock with an occasional sideswipe to country and blues.

David embraced music at an early age, writing and performing his first song at the age of four for a supper table audience. His memories of growing up are peppered with musical influences. “Around the house, my father was always singing Jim Reeves, my mother, Elvis, my grandparents, gospel. Then my older brothers exposed me to bands like the Beatles, David Bowie, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, Styx and Rush,” says David.

An affinity for percussion drew David to join the school marching band where he played snare drum and bells. It was here on the drum line that he met future partner Stacey Rogers. Together they formed “Grandmaster Slice and Izzy Chill,” a Rap / Dance duo, whose hit single, “Shall We Dance,” achieved top 20 status on the Billboard Dance charts.
Following the success of Slice and Chill, David switched his primary focus from the music profession to public service. He kept his music motor running by performing in Little Theatre’s “A Christmas Carol” and, recently, “Forever Plaid” and playing drums in “Always, Patsy Cline,” pickup jazz trios, and the Halifax County Jazz Band, of which he was an inaugural member.
